Community Activity

Rebuilding Together

For the past twelve years Paragon has actively supported Rebuilding Together (formally known as Christmas in April) by renovating homes for families in need. Our goal is to provide a safe, dry and cool-in-the-summer / warm-in-the-winter environment. Because of the significance of this project, both to the community and to Paragon president John Ives, employees from all over the southeast travel to Montgomery to volunteer their labor and expertise. In addition, John Ives is on the local Rebuilding Together board and coordinates the acquisition and delivery of materials to all program home rehabilitation projects in Montgomery on National Rebuilding Day.

On our most recent project, Paragon employees renovated the home of a couple in their 80s over the course of several weeks. Although they remain active, they have been unable to make needed repairs and additions (the husband made home repairs until his open heart surgery nine years ago). Paragon replaced a severely moisture damaged dining room wall, removed damaged tile in the bathroom and replaced it with a tub surround, replaced the kitchen floor and a portion of the kitchen ceiling, and replaced the front walkway. We also added a handrail to the front steps, grab bars along the hallway, and a ramp from the back door. Thank you to everyone who volunteered on this project!

Easter Seals

In addition, John Ives has been involved with the Janice Capilouto Center for the Deaf - Easter Seals for many years, and serves on the Easter Seals Alabama Board of Directors. Paragon participated in the most recent Montgomery area Walk With Me fundraiser, and Paragon also sponsors several Easter Seals events throughout the year.
